San Shin No Kata / Gogyo No Kata

Chi (Earth) Sanshin Ken (Three Finger Strike)
Sui (Water) Jodan Uke (High Block) and Omote Shuto Kubi (Outer Strike)
Ka (Fire) Jodan Uke (High Block) and Ura Shuto Kubi (Inner Strike)
Fu (Wind) Gedan Uke (Low Block) and Boshi Ken (Thumb Strike)
Ku (Void) Gedan Uke (Low Block) and Meysubushi (Distraction) and Keri (Kick)

Sanshin No Kata / Gogyo No Kata. Are they the same thing?

I have seen several versions of Sanshin No Kata over the years and everyone does it slightly different and yet the principles seem the same. However it appears to me that Sanshin No Kata would be used to teach flow whereas I believe that Gogyo would have more of an attacking nature.
Lets look at the the differences: (note: the way I describe the techniques come from my personal hand written notes right or wrong Sanshin circa 1986 and Gogyo circa 1996)

Chi
Attacker punches defender drops back from shizen diagonally backwards with right arm flowing in line with right leg. Defender then steps forward and arm swings up in a pendulum like manner, the fingers forming a birds beak (Sanshinken, 3 finger strike) that strikes under the chin of the attacker (or to the side of neck).

Appears similar in both Kata

Sui
Version 1: Attacker punches to head. Defender drops back from shizen diagonally backwards into Ichimongi and perform a Jodan Uke (upper block) then steps forwards and performs a Omote Shuto Kubi from a shoulder high hand position
Version 2: Defender is already in Shoshin and performs Jodan Uke then steps forwards and performs a Omote Shuto Kubi but this time the strike comes from the hip

Ka Same as above but Ura

Fu
Version 1: Attacker kicks. Defender drops back from shizen diagonally backwards into Ichimongi and perform a Gedan Uke (lower block). He then steps in and performs a Boshiken (thumb strike) to the attackers inner thigh.
Version 2: Similar to above but with defender already in Shoshin and the boshiken could be applied to the groin area.

Ku
Version 1: Attacker kicks. Defender drops back from shizen diagonally backwards into Ichimongi and perform a Gedan Uke (lower block). He then steps in with a distraction technique and follows through with a front kick.
Version 2: Attacker kicks. Defender is in Shoshin no kamae and raises the back hand above the head to attract the opponent's attention while kicking a Zenpo-keri.

So it would appear that Gogyo No Kata starts from a 'ready' position while Sanshin No Kata starts from a 'relaxed' position and therefor takes longer to perform.
